The tiny Himalayan nation has a very high biological bio-diversity with 616 bird species recorded till date (despite limited research). Of these, 464 species are resident and besides various rare bird species found in Bhutan around 14 species have been identified as globally threatened. These include White-bellied Heron, Pallas’s fish eagle, Chestnut-breasted partridge, Blyth’s tragopan, Wood snipe, Dark-rumped swift, Rufous-necked hornbill, Grey-crowned prinia and beautiful nuthatch.
